CARLYSLE VICENTI, has been creating unique monoprints for over 25 years. The son of a full-blooded Jicarilla Apache and a Belgian émigré, he is a second generation artist influenced by extreme cross cultures. Mr. Vicenti developed his distinctive technique while attending Virginia Commonwealth University. He uses handheld brayers to apply oil paint and printing pigments to a smooth surface, then scores into the wet medium, creating open spaces which are then re-rolled to impart color in specific areas. Each work is printed on durable Japanese fiber paper, and each image is as individual as a painting – hence the name monoprint. His works are in numerous collections throughout the world, but only available in this area through Brooklyn Mercantile.
SULLIVAN WALSH, Metalwork Designer, bends and curves hard steel into elegant and beautiful accessories for the home. Brooklyn Mercantile is pleased to offer several of Walsh's lamps designed and constructed with a certain playfulness using repurposed materials and artifacts from the bygone era of NYC factories. Custom tables and benches are another specialty available through Brooklyn Mercantile.
DIANA VICENTI, Fabric Artist, decorative painter and window treatment fabricator, was born and raised in Lancaster, PA where she was influenced by Amish quilt-making. She became interested in fabric arts as a way to make use of leftover scraps. Employing her painting background in the discovery process, she manipulates the fabrics and the relationship between them. Her colorful pillows are featured at Brooklyn Mercantile.
CLAIRE GODDARD, English mixed media artist, assembles her evocative collages from found objects, such as matchbooks, letters, book pages, recycled paper, stamps, used envelopes, tape, buttons and thread. By using reclaimed and commonplace materials, particularly those of a transitory, ephemeral nature, she explores ideas of sustainability, art in the community and individuality in design. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide. A fine selection of Ms. Goddard’s work is offered at Brooklyn Mercantile.
BARBARA ENSOR, Park Slope-resident artist, educator and writer, has written extensively for websites and publications, among them New York Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Family Life and The Village Voice. Her illustrations have appeared in numerous publications including The New York Times, Harper's Magazine, Self and Graphis. A selection of Ms. Ensor’s signature cut-out silhouettes, some of which illustrate both books, are available at Brooklyn Mercantile.
